our people

We are an agency
built for right now.

Who
We Are

We all have defined roles here, sure. It helps with organization. But what defines us is that our work is never limited by titles or trades — they’re the starting point. So let’s get started.

Like Twain and Seuss, Smithee and J.K., everyone loves a good pen name. We’re no different. But why Artemis Ward? Glad you asked.

In the nineteenth century, Artemus Ward was humor writer Charles Farrar Browne’s pen name, the appellation he carried around the country as a lecturer and storyteller. He was a known favorite of Abraham Lincoln, and his work deeply influenced Mark Twain, who later dubbed Brown “America’s greatest humorist.” High praise, if there ever was.

And nearly 100 years earlier, the name belonged to a one Artemas Ward, the second-in-command general alongside George Washington during the Revolutionary War. To this day, his namesake is etched in stone, literally, as Ward Circle in Washington D.C. — the hometown, it just so happens, of this agency.

We’re forward thinkers with old school values — the best of both worlds.
